Nominal weights from geometry and density. Beam weights per DIN 1025 / EN 10365.

How it’s calculated

Cross-section, times length, times density.

Every result is the profile’s cross-section times its length times the material’s density. Standard beams use their nominal mass per metre.

Tube

m = π × s × (D − s) × L × ρ

D outside diameter, s wall thickness, L length, ρ density

Tube 33.7 × 2.61.99 kg/m

Round bar

m = π × (Ø ÷ 2)² × L × ρ

Ø diameter, L length, ρ density

Round bar Ø 202.47 kg/m

Flat bar

m = b × s × L × ρ

b width, s thickness, L length, ρ density

Flat bar 50 × 103.93 kg/m

Sheet

m = L × b × s × ρ

L length, b width, s thickness, ρ density

Sheet 2 mm15.70 kg/m²

Beam

m = G × L

G nominal mass per metre (DIN 1025 / EN 10365), L length

Questions

Steel weight, briefly answered

How do you calculate the weight of steel?

Cross-section times length times density. With dimensions in millimetres and density in kg/dm³: weight in kg = cross-section (mm²) × length (mm) × density ÷ 1,000,000.

What is the density of steel?

Unalloyed steel: 7.85 kg/dm³ (7,850 kg/m³). Stainless 1.4301 (V2A): 7.90 kg/dm³, stainless 1.4571 (V4A): 8.00 kg/dm³, aluminium: 2.70 kg/dm³.

How much does round bar Ø 20 mm weigh per metre?

2.47 kg per metre in unalloyed steel.

How much does a tube 33.7 × 2.6 mm weigh?

1.99 kg per metre in unalloyed steel, from π × s × (D − s) × ρ.

How much does 1 m² of 2 mm steel sheet weigh?

15.70 kg: sheet weight per square metre is the thickness in mm times the density in kg/dm³.

How much does an IPE 200 beam weigh?

22.40 kg per metre (nominal mass to DIN 1025-5), so a 6 m beam weighs 134.40 kg.

Is the calculator free?

Yes, free and without sign-up — powered by Schierle Siyaya GmbH, with the same formulas and section tables as their calculators.
